A Life Dedicated to the Art
Hanshi Seiken Takamine is a true legend in the world of martial arts, having dedicated over 60 years to the rigorous study and mastery of Traditional Okinawan Karate. His journey is one of pure dedication to preserving an art form that is rapidly disappearing.
This dedication to discipline and service was also demonstrated in his military career. Hanshi Takamine is a proud Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. During his service, he achieved the rank of Platoon Sergeant, served in a supply transport battalion, and was part of an airborne jump group. For his distinguished service, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Born on the island of Okinawa, Hanshi Takamine trained directly under the esteemed Grandmaster Taika Seiyu Oyata. As one of Oyata’s closest disciples, he trained alongside the grandmaster for decades, absorbing the entirety of his teachings and preserving the complete, unmodernized system.
